Response to the Federal Election Commission's Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, 2014-12

Webster, Chamberlain & Bean, LLP filed comments in response to the Federal Election Commission’s Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, 2014-12 regarding whether to begin a rulemaking to revise disclosure requirements, particularly as to Internet speech. Attorney Heidi K. Abegg also testified before the Commission at its hearing, argued against Internet regulation, asserting that a hands off approach is consistent with the First Amendment and democratic principles and that regulation of political Internet speech would have a chilling effect on ordinary citizens, lead to harassing complaints, and result in burdensome investigations.
